Fairy tales are a fascinating and lesser-known part of Erna Rosenstein's literary work. "The Shadow Catcher" is a collection of nearly all the fairy tales found in her archive, most written in the 1940s and 1950s, with some from later decades. Erna Rosenstein’s childlike curiosity and questioning of reality’s logic extended beyond her art. She valued the animal world equally with the human, finding significance in the rejected and forgotten. For her, objects were traces of memory and symbols of transience. Her studio, a small room she spent her final years in, was a magical, fairy-tale space. "The Shadow Catcher" blends surrealism with visions at the border of reality and dreams, reflecting war-torn worlds and the timeless struggle of good versus evil. Illustrated by Katarzyna Walentynowicz, with texts edited by Jarosław Borowiec, it was created in cooperation with Adam Sandauer and the Foksal Gallery Foundation, which preserves Rosenstein's legacy.
