Maria Papa-Rostkowska. The Promise of Happiness

In autumn 2023, the Royal Sculpture Gallery in the Royal Łazienki Museum hosted an exhibition of sculptures by Maria Papa-Rostkowska, one of the most interesting Polish sculptors of the 20th century. We were tasked with designing the accompanying catalogue. The exhibition's curators aimed to remove the sculptures from historical and stylistic contexts, focusing on the artist's workshop, material finishing, and the relationship between form and space. Papa-Rostkowska's art was a personal search for solace and happiness. We created an elegant catalogue with modern contrasts, highlighting the artist's love for white marble. The publication features an embossed sculpture on the outer box, offering a tactile experience of space. Typography, color contrast, and selective use of different fonts, such as Mateusz Machalski's Salo, guide the reader through key quotes. The design, awarded in the Museum Book of the Year 2023 and Most Beautiful Polish Books 2023, emphasizes the sculptural essence of the exhibition.
