The book "In the Passage: 43 Texts on Architecture and Space" compiles key articles from the last twenty years of the quarterly Autoportret. It serves as both a diagnosis of contemporary times and a guide to future change, reflecting on our position in a state of transition, in the space between. The volume features texts by renowned Polish and international architects, sociologists, anthropologists, and writers. Selected from over 76 thematic issues of Autoportret—the only Polish magazine exploring space as a cultural phenomenon—these essays illuminate how architecture interacts with society and culture. As Marcin Wicha writes in the introduction: Autoportret examines not static architectural objects, but dynamic, transitional spaces. It envisions “good space” as aspirational—a place where ideas become objects and time leaves traces. This perspective, rooted in hope, defines the publication: space can improve, and understanding it requires vigilance, courage, and effort.
