The album "Workers," the first publication by the Edward Dwurnik Foundation, explores Dwurnik's painting cycle of 260 works created between 1975 and 1991. The titular Workers, representing the Polish nation, are oppressed by the Soviet regime yet fight back. On large canvases, Poles, also featured in Dwurnik's "Sportsmen" cycle, march with banners and slogans for freedom. Dwurnik captures the birth of Solidarity, martial law, its heroes, and its victims, but his work also critiques blind devotion to religion and national dogmas. The series spans 16 years, featuring expressive trans-avant-garde aesthetics, melancholic scenes, allegories, and artistic references.
