Celebrating traditional print culture with contemporary tools
The main design idea celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Publishing Art Department by blending modern graphic tools with traditional aesthetics. An algorithm was used to recreate the old marbling patterns found in bookbindings, connecting the project with classic book culture. To honor marbling’s history, AI tools generated a series of unique patterns for the dust jackets. Each frame of the video documenting the books represents one dust jacket, emphasizing their individuality. Each edition is manually numbered to highlight its uniqueness. The dust jacket design also serves as the visual identity of the 50 for 50 exhibition at the National Museum in Wrocław. The book’s interior reflects a clash of old and new: its first part features a 19th-century-inspired typeface, while the second half uses a modern grotesque.
