Publication design for “Polska – Kraj Folkloru?,” a companion book for the exhibition at Zachęta National Gallery of Art. The book explores an ambiguous and complex issue – the preoccupation with folk art in early post-war Poland, and the first two decades of the communist Polish People’s Republic. Paying close attention to the exhibition programme at the Central Bureau for Art Exhibitions during the fifties and sixties, the book’s authors embark on an exhaustive inquiry into the exceptional phenomenon of the misconstrued marriage between Socialist Realism and Chłopomania [literally peasant-mania, a term describing the modernist Young Poland intelligentsia’s fascination with peasantry].
Publikacja towarzysząca wystawie w Zachęcie podejmuje złożony i niejednoznaczny temat zainteresowania sztuką ludową w Polsce tuż po wojnie i w pierwszych dwóch dekadach PRL-u. Ważnym dla niej punktem odniesienia jest historia wystaw, jakie miały miejsce w latach 50. i 60. w CBWA. Autorzy koncentrują się na pokazaniu niezwykłego fenomenu, jakim był mezalians młodopolskiej chłopomanii z socrealizmem.
