“Swell” is the story of break-up and of unaccepted loneliness; about going back to the same places and memories we can’t forget. At first it was supposed to be a documentary project about the Baltic Sea. A plan was drawn up by the artist, the form was thought through, and the places to be visited were marked on the map. The photographs came about during trips together. The last joint photo was taken a little later-and a portrait on a negative ruined by the lab technician. The project no longer mattered and the outings to the sea were now only an escape from daily life. Over a dozen colour “postcards” have survived from the first trips. Michał Łuczak was a curator and editor of the whole photobook project.
„Swell” rozpada się w rękach. Książka wydaje się być uszkodzona – rozerwana na dwie części. Ten zabieg, wywołujący u odbiorcy nieprzyjemne wrażenie, w sposób metaforyczny oddaje rozłam w życiu autora, który rozstał się z dziewczyną. W pierwszej części albumu widzimy słabo nasycone barwą kadry polaroidów, z których emanuje spokój. W drugiej zdjęcia ukazują polskie morze poza sezonem: zahartowany mężczyzna wbiega do zimnej wody, ludzie karmią mewy, wrak statku zarasta zielenią. Kuratorem projektu i edytorem książki jest Michał Łuczak.
