As part of her residency at the POLIN Museum in Warsaw, Patrycja Orzechowska created a unique publication which presented the images of gifts the museum has received which are now part of the institution’s collection. The objects selected by the artist, in cooperation with the institution’s Collections Department included personal memorabilia and stories which were directly exposed onto photosensitive material. Her work is not only a rare insight into the multi-generational stories hidden in these objects, but also a potentially-critical analysis of social memory. 

W ramach rezydencji w Muzeum POLIN Patrycja Orzechowska stworzyła unikatową publikację, która zawiera obrazy darów z kolekcji instytucji utrwalone w szczególny sposób. Wybrane przez artystkę we współpracy z Działem Zbiorów obiekty – osobiste pamiątki i historie – zostały bezpośrednio naświetlone na materiale światłoczułym. Jej praca jest nie tylko szczególnym wglądem w wielopokoleniowe historie ukryte w tych przedmiotach, ale także niepozbawioną potencjału krytycznego analizą pamięci społecznej.

A richly-illustrated catalog for the exhibition, “Biedermeier” is a vast introduction to the culture of the first-half of the nineteenth century – also referred to as “Lower Rank Romanticism” or “Domesticated Romanticism”. The paintings, drawings, engravings and handicrafts featuring furniture, porcelain, glass, silver, gowns, jewelry and other various items (toys, family albums, and knick-knacks for example) allow one to get a sense of their owner and user’s aesthetic tastes. Essays broadly discuss the various manifestations of the Biedermeier style, and present a comprehensive ovrview of the period’s customs. 

Bogato ilustrowany katalog wystawy „Biedermeier” doskonale wprowadza w kulturę pierwszej połowy XIX wieku, nazywaną także romantyzmem „niższej rangi” lub „udomowionym romantyzmem”. Zaprezentowane dzieła malarstwa, rysunki i ryciny, a także rzemiosło artystyczne: meble, porcelana, szkło, srebra, stroje, biżuteria i rozmaite przedmioty – zabawki, sztambuchy, bibeloty – pozwalają poznać upodobania i gusty ich ówczesnych odbiorców oraz użytkowników. Eseje szeroko omawiają różnorodne przejawy stylu biedermeierowskiego, dając jednocześnie wszechstronny obraz obyczajowości tego czasu.

The book “Art Brut Różnorodnie”, edited by Joanna Daszkiewicz and Sonia Rammer, is a bilingual study on the works of “The Raw”. The monographic publication contains various perspectives on the conceptualization of the issue – historical, philosophical, psychological and economic – and consists of two parts. The first is composed of theoretical considerations, while the second is a monograph of Tadeusz Głowala’s work – a brut artist and a resident of the Social Welfare Home in Miszew. 

Książka „Art Brut Różnorodnie” pod redakcją Joanny Daszkiewicz i Sonii Rammer to dwujęzyczne opracowanie dotyczące twórczości „surowej”. Monografia zawiera różnorodne perspektywy konceptualizacji problemu; historyczną, filozoficzną, psychologiczną, ekonomiczną. Publikacja składa się z dwóch części, pierwsza stanowi rozważania teoretyczne, druga jest monograficznym opracowaniem twórczości Tadeusza Głowali – artysty brut, rezydenta Domu Pomocy Społecznej w Miszewie.

A publication based on a nineteenth-century manuscript by Count Wacław Seweryn Rzewuski concerning the Arab culture entitled “Sur les Chevaux…”. The Qatar Museums Authority commissioned a facsimile of the manuscript in three volumes from The National Library of Poland. The typographic layout reproduces the original manuscript, even keeping the margins separated by a vertical maroon line. The cover is dominated by a golden color, and the natural cream color used on the book’s spine correspond to the colors of the Arabian desert – the sun and sand. These colors combined with white, high-quality paper reflect the style of Arabian men’s traditional attire. 

Podstawą edycji jest XIX-wieczny rękopis autorstwa hrabiego Wacława Seweryna Rzewuskiego „Sur les chevaux…” dotyczący kultury arabskiej. Biblioteka Narodowa na zlecenie Qatar Museums Authority wydała faksymile rękopisu w trzech tomach. Układ typograficzny odwzorowuje układ i styl rękopisu – z zachowaniem marginesów oddzielonych pionową, bordową kreską.Do oprawy zastosowano połączenie koloru złotego z naturalnym kremem na grzbiecie, co odpowiada kolorystyce arabskiej pustyni – słońca i piasku. Barwy te w połączeniu z bielą i wysokiej jakości papierem oddają styl tradycyjnych męskich strojów wierzchnich Arabów.

New graphic design for a classic literature series of American and Russian novels. The set includes such authors as: Dostojewski, Czechow, Warthon and James. Each book has a distinct ornament placed on the front cover which evokes the book’s character. Colors and patterns distinguish the American from Russian literature, with each hardcover printed using only four colors on uncoated paper. Inside readers discover a classic, bright layout with colored endpaper.

Projekt serii klasycznych powieści amerykańskich i rosyjskich w nowej oprawie graficznej. W serii ukazały się powieści autorstwa m.in.: Fiodora Dostojewskiego, Antona Czechowa, Edith Warthon i Henry’ego Jamesa. Każda z okładek ma odrębny ornament dobrany do charakteru książki. Kolor na froncie oraz wzory na grzbiecie dodatkowo odróżniają część amerykańską od rosyjskiej. Oprawa twarda wydrukowana przy użyciu czterech jednakowych kolorów z okleiną na papierze niepowlekanym. Wnętrze o klasycznym, przejrzystym układzie z kolorową wyklejką.
